Regular and consistent Bible reading is absolutely necessary for having a strong walk with Christ. More than any song, book, or sermon, the Word of God is given to us to nourish our souls by teaching us not only who God is, but how we can know him.

At New Beginnings, we want to do everything we can to help you build a strong habit of drawing near to the Lord daily through the Bible. If this is something you want, here’s what you can do:

First, download our Scripture reading plan from our website (this is the new 2016 reading plan). This will be the schedule that we’ll be keeping together. This plan is designed for people who are not used to reading the Bible every day. Most days, this plan will only require you to do two chapters, which can be finished in less than ten minutes. At this pace, we will complete half the Old Testament this year, and we will finish the New Testament and the Psalms. Next year, if you stick with us in this, you will finish the Old Testament, as well as the New Testament and Psalms another time. This gives you the double benefit of not committing to more than you are able to do and running out of steam shortly after you start, and of allowing you time to meditate and pray over things that you find helpful in your daily readings. If you would like supplemental reading for each day’s passages, we recommend following along in DA Carson’s For the Love of God daily devotional.

Second, everyone is invited to join us for our adult Sunday school class that meets at 8:45 am every service before our Sunday. Here, we will be discussing each week’s reading, and you will have the opportunity to share things that the Lord is teaching you through his Word, and you will get to ask questions and get feedback on anything that you didn’t understand or found excusing. You’ll also gain some insights about the historical context of what you’re reading and tips on how to get better at reading the Bible for yourself.

We hope you can join us in this exciting effort. But even if you can’t, it still is our prayer that you would be setting aside time every day to encounter God in his Scripture.
